Last night's 2010 American Music Awards was all about the Bieber-Fever. But I'll get to all of that in a moment. With a night full undeserving Standing Ovations,
spectacular dull performances, unpredictable (yeah right) wins, and loses, The AMA's were a shadow of themselves from the past. The AMA's use to use a panel of music experts to vote on the winners for each category, now with the new age of the internet, nominees are are voted on upon the fans (as if fans of today have any real musical sense). But I am not here to judge, so let's look at the AMA's in review:
Rihanna kicked off the AMA's with a 8 minute performance of her smash hits Love the Way You Lie (Part 2), What's My Name, and Only Girl (In the World). In what seemed to be a pretty stiff performance from the new Queen Of The Singles Charts, vocally she wasn't that bad (with the exception of some backing tracks helping her out), I expected a train wreck. With her spiral Shirley Temple (Maroon) hair, many fans on Twitter thought the new due reminded them of a certain female artist
Whitney Houston 1994 BB Music Awards
Well anyhow, Rihanna's performance was only half way decent, but surely not worthy of an opener, let alone the standing ovation she received afterwards (I think she has a song by that title btw). Rihanna did take home an AMA for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist.
Justin Bieber King Of The AMA's 2010
16 year old heart throb Justin Bieber, took home not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 AMA's, in which every category he was nominated in, he won, including the biggest honor of the night, Entertainer Of The Year. That is quite impressive especially if it was voted on upon a panel of experts--but believe me when I tell you, Bieber-fans came out in droves just like the Tea Party did for Bristol Palin (oops!). But in all fairness, at least Bieber is talented unlike Bristol. Beiber took home 4 AMA's for: Favorite Breakthrough Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, and Favorite Artist of the Year. Bieber was the youngest artist ever to win Artist Of The Year
Reigning king of R&B Usher, proved to the many doubters that his career wasn't over after the underperformed Here I Stand album, by having a big year in music. Usher took home two trophy's, one in the Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist category, and another in the Favorite Soul/R&B Album category, he may also be a shuin for the upcoming Grammy Awards in February. Usher performed his latest hit DJ Got Us Falling In Love, in what seemed to be Usher not putting much effort into his performances as in the past. Was he tired? Mad his own protege' beat him out? Or was the Ex Tameka surprisingly in the audience? For whatever reason it was, Usher was not at his best last night. But giving props to Usher, for being one of the only few artists left who still thank God for his accomplishments.
Miley Cyrus ahh...nevermind
sensation over saturated Katey Perry, performed her latest hit Fireworks. Oddly her performance started off with a children's choir, just to have her walking down a set of stairs (inappropriately dressed in front of children), in a red ensemble dressed like Madonna in
Her performance was a mess. Perry did not take home any awards (rightfully so).
Christina Gets All
XTina performed a song from her upcoming movie Burlesqe co-starring Cher. In what was suppose to be a comeback performance for Christina, looked more like a cheap, strip-tease (minus the action). Christina seemed bored in her performance. I was expecting the once chart topping diva to entertain me, yet I was served with what a bunch of 70 year old women out of the nursing could have done. I hope this movie serves at the box office, cause this performance was definitely lacking.
Black Eyed Peas
Black Eyed Peas took home their AMA for Favorite Pop Rock Band/Duo/Group, as if there were any real competition for the futuristic quartet. The group's performance was quite weird. People dancing with tv's on their head, the usual Will I Am atrocious get-up, and Fergie's extra tight face, what a hot mess this was. But in good spirits, at least their performance wasn't as dull as my next review...
....Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift. What can I say. Other than her new Kat Stacks hairdo, (thanks to Miriam for that one lol), which was probably the most entertaining part of her visual. There is nothing more boring than Taylor sittining behind a piano not singing her heart out. Taylor did manage to snatch up an AMA for Favorite Country Female Artist.
The rest of the winners of the night included:
Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist: Lady Gaga
Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist: MercyMe

Let's check out some of the night's performances:
New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys
In what looked like a night of snoozefess-mania, highlights of the night, was actually the montage they showed of past winners, such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna etc. However, I do think the moment when Justin Bieber won for Artist Of The Year, was a little touching. He asked for his mentor Usher to come up on stage and share his award with him. I also thought a pregnant Pink gave the best performance of the night, along with legends Bon Jovi.
